2014 was a challenging year for the nation, the church, and for many of us personally. Looking back has some value if only to help predict the coming year. Many preachers are already saying that 2015 could be your year. They may be right but not for the reasons they might expect.

We talk about putting the Christ back in Christmas all the time. It's a great soundbite and gets likes on Facebook. Maybe we're going about this wrong. Perhaps we need to think more like Simeon and Anna.

These are perilous times. Segments of our society are perching on the edge of a knife with far too many people pushing hard to slice through and bring havoc and destruction while claiming to be seeking justice. We need a calmer voice to prevail.
